Hello, I’m Lynn - This Is Why I Created Creative Business Boss

If you’ve arrived here expecting to meet someone who chose one career, followed a carefully organised plan and knew exactly where it would all lead, I should probably admit straight away that this hasn’t been my story!

My working life has included education, art, design, retail, interiors, workshops, children’s creative clubs and several businesses of my own. Some ideas became successful businesses, some changed direction along the way and others taught me very clearly what I didn’t want to do again.

I’ve learned far more by trying things than I ever could have learned by waiting until I felt completely ready.

I’ve always been full of ideas. My problem has rarely been finding something I could do, it has been deciding which idea deserves my time and how to turn it into something that works in real life.

Over the years, I’ve opened a shop, worked in education, run workshops, created children’s holiday clubs, designed resources and built businesses around creativity. I’ve experienced the exciting parts, the confusing parts and the moments when you wonder why on earth you thought working for yourself would make life simpler!

I also know that a business can look successful from the outside while no longer fitting the person running it.

That matters. A business should support your life, not gradually take it over.

Creative Business Boss grew from my desire to create something different: a useful and honest place for people who have ideas, skills and experience but may not know what to do with them yet.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that a good idea and the right idea are not always the same thing.

An opportunity might be profitable, popular or perfectly sensible, but that doesn’t automatically mean it will suit your personality, circumstances or the life you want to create.

I’ve built things that worked but demanded too much of me. I’ve followed ideas because they appeared sensible, then realised that I didn’t enjoy the day-to-day reality of running them. I’ve also discovered possibilities in skills I had taken completely for granted.

That’s why I’m interested in flexible businesses, useful digital products and different ways of earning from what we already know. I want to explore ideas that can grow gradually, change with us and leave room for an actual life outside work.

Creative Business Boss will grow into a collection of practical guides, honest articles and useful resources covering creative business, home and everyday life.

You’ll find ideas for starting or developing a business, ways to turn existing skills into income, practical planners and resources, home guides and plenty of inspiration for trying something new.

I’ll also share what I’m learning as I build this business, the decisions, experiments, changes of direction and occasional moments when a supposedly simple job becomes far more complicated than expected!

I don’t believe you need to have everything planned before you begin. You’re allowed to test an idea, learn from it and decide that something else would suit you better.

You’re also allowed to want work that fits around your life rather than a life that has to fit around your work.

Perhaps you already have a business and want to take it in a new direction. Maybe you’ve spent years developing skills through work, family life or hobbies and have never considered that somebody might pay for them. Or perhaps you simply feel ready for something different but don’t yet know what that looks like.

You don’t need to decide everything today.
